Getting the Boot

Tretorn's high-performance riding boot could become the next Ugg.

By Alyson Sheppard

On a recent trip to Europe, stylish Boston horsewoman Alexandra Cherubini fell head over hooves for the fashion crossover potential of Tretorn's high-performance riding boot. In hopes that the Tretorn will become the next Ugg, the equestrian-gear entrepreneur snapped up the exclusive rights to distribute the boot in the United States through her company, EquiFit. A toe-to-toe comparison:

UGG

Original Audience: Hard-core Australian surfers
The Look: Eskimo boho
Price Tag: $200–$300

TRETORN

Original Audience: Hard-core European equestrians
The Look: Space-age sleek
Price Tag: $750

The Verdict: The Tretorn is pricey, but with Ugg overkill making us almost thankful for global warming, we're willing to pay up if it means trading in the shearling.
